I Was On The Lamb This Weekend

This was my first weekend as being 100% single since the beginning of October. Unlike certain other new singles (ahem) I didn't go out on the pull. Nope I spent it with fabulous friends.

On Friday night I had a few drinks with Beka and Kellie. Kellie had been in Oz for the last 6 weeks or so and thus we had some catching up to do. I had to recant the whole tale of woe. It was painful to say the least, but then I got her to talk about Oz. She had a brilliant time and I loved hearing about her trip.

On Saturday my friend, Russ, came over. I think he has some sort of H~ Heartache radar. I've dated a few different men since I've moved here, but only have had 3 serious bruises to my romantic aortic pump, J- being number 3. Each time Russ has been there within a week to take my mind off my heartache with fun and frolics. He appears without my summoning. I'm lucky to have such a friend like him. In addition to Russ I have to say that all my friends here have been wonderful and patient during this time of 'me me meness' that I've been putting them through with all the crap that's been going down. I'm really blessed. Most of them were out that weekend as well. And so we had some fun and did some frolicking.

The Lamb, a favourite local of mine, (I had my last birthday party there) celebrated the 2nd year that Adam and Liz had taken over management. Since the 2nd anniversary is cotton, they had a Cotton Eyed Joe Theme. Thus people were dressed up as Cowboys or 'Indians.' I have this orange shiny cowboy hat, which Seattle Julia got for me in New Orleans right before I moved to Mexico. I wore that and then keeping with the theme of my Disco Cowboy Hat, I wore a rather sexy seventies dress. And here I am.

Russ told me to use what I had and so I did.

And so off to the Lamb. As I said many of my mates were there. Here is a pic of a few of them. As you can see they are all related. ;-)

The best bit though was the bucking Lamb. Yes, not a bucking bull but a bucking Lamb. I was able to ride it for 16 seconds... on my 3rd attempt. Kellie was also there and she got a brilliant shot of me riding it.

Not bad for a camera phone with no real flash, eh?

On Sunday I went with Kellie and London Julia to Twickenham where we watched England stomp on France in the rugby. 34-10. We met up with some other people and had a lovely time.

So, not bad for my first weekend as a renewed single woman. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the simplicity and levity of it all.

Happy Freakin' Fourth of July

So, this happens to me every time I am not in the US on The Fourth. I forget about its significance. My hairstylist reminded me this morning. Oops. I made certain to wish all my American friends a Happy Fourth on Facebook. There will of course be no fireworks here.

And, because I was getting my haircut this morning I missed a delivery from an overnight courier. The package is my medieval costume for Adam's (owner of The Lamb where I had my 40th) fancy dress birthday party. The guy dropped by minutes before I got home. I was expecting that I would be able to pick it up from the local post-office but no. Since I ordered this costume and had it expressed delivered, I would have to go all the way into Guilford to get it and not just to the town part of Guilford. I would have to go about 3 miles away from the station to the warehouse area. Living in the London area and not out in the country, I don't own a car because there is no reason for me to do so (also have an ethical issues with needless waste of fossil fuels). However, this is a time when I would need a car. So, I rang the company and asked if there would be anyway for them to come back and was told that they would try, but no promises. As I type this, it is 4:59PM. No one has come by. I was told the delivery time would be until 5.

It has been a beautiful sunny day and I spent all of it inside waiting for this costume. The weather is beginning to turn. It's getting colder and cloudy. I checked the forecast and it will be raining by tomorrow morning. So, it looks like I wasted a beautiful day inside and will be going to Guilford with my bike to head to this delivery place in the rain. Poo!

But in honour of The Fourth of July I have been watching episodes of Commander in Chief, which in all honesty has been distracting me, and it is now 6:09.

So, I'm off to join my friends at The Lamb and then up early tomorrow to go into stupid Guilford.

But before you stop reading this, look how short my hair is now!

My neck will be nice and cool when I'm in North Carolina.

Doh!

I made two silly mistakes this weekend.

1. The Lamb, a local pub, is going to have a party, celebrating a year under the new ownership. The theme of the party is paper. I realised this during the day on Saturday. Thus, I made a quick makeshift costume. It wasn't as good as I would have wanted, but it would do. I also found a paper bag that Linds could wear on her head if she desired. We were set. Then, a minute or so before we were meant to leave, I received a text from Ces informing me that the Lamb party was actually next weekend. Thank God, I got the text when I did. Can you imagine Linds and I walking in to the Lamb, me wearing my paper costume and she with a paper bag on her head, only to discover there was no party? Phew!

2. Linds and I decided to go to Gordon Bennett's to have a celebratory glass of champagne for Linds (she sold her flat). I was putting my foot down and refusing to let her pay for it. As I protested vehemently, I reached in my handbag and gave the barman my card. The barman looked at me and said, 'I'm sorry, miss, but we don't take Nectar Cards.' Doh! The people around me all laughed. One guy even said, 'Nice try.' I was bright red as I got my bank card out of my bag.

I'm off to a chilli cook off tonight. I've made cream cheese brownies and have been starving myself all day.
